The Holidays are always a great time to flaunt your Antiques and treasure before your families and friends and also a great time to add new pieces to your existing collection.

Every Antique Item has its own story and importance and if it a piece you’ve inherited then it’s a good reminder of friends and family.

First of all antiques should be handle gently as they are old and somewhat fragile.

Gentle cleansing agents should be used as hard chemicals might discolor or stained the item. For items such as glass, pottery and porcelain that are breakable should always be displayed in a safe location so that they are not chipped or broken.

For antique rugs and other such textiles always use a gentle hand as even a slight hard pull could tear off the already delicate fibers. Avoid extreme humidity or direct sun exposure. When storing them be aware of any wrong folding or crushing to avoid damage. Always use vacuum at low setting and seek expert advice to add life to your much adorned Antique pieces.

The care of Antique Furniture should be taken in similar manner. Never dragged or pull them across the floor or use too much force. For dusting use a soft cloth. Never put them in direct sunlight as it can damage their polish. Extreme temperatures should be avoided and the furniture should not be put under heavy weight.

Antiques are rare so should be maintained in a manner that they could last forever. Owning an Antique piece is a big pleasure and with proper care could last the rest of your life.

Since the birth of the internet, shopping has never been easier. For Antique lovers, this has turned into a dream come true. Vintage seekers can not only find their favorite pieces, but they can also do as much research as they want on a specific item. In a world full of resources, it is extremely easy to find what you are looking for. The internet offers lots of resources and information from Do It Yourself projects to Home Decoration.

One of the most popular ways to find a specific Antique is to look on EBay or another auction site. There are often other Antique dealers on the internet that will search for a particular item for you. Many dealers also will agree to trade items, if you have something that they would like to purchase.

One of the most popular vintage items on the internet right now is authentic toys such as wooden rocking horses and aged dolls. These items can go for thousands of dollars, yet it is important to make sure they are authentic. Before buying any item on an auction site, you must do your research and talk personally with the seller. For instance, if you are looking for an Antique set of marbles, you will want to have a price range in mind. You should also know the history and what to look for in the pictures.

Although the internet can be a risky place to purchase items, it has also opened up an entirely new world. For antique lovers, it means having everything at their fingertips and since the birth of the internet we have become better shoppers, due to the huge selection of free online resources. So the next time you have a Home Decorating project be sure and do your research.

We live in an ever changing world. It is said that the only thing constant in this world is change. All things age, and everything passes on. But with age comes a certain degree of refinement, a certain level of superiority. There’s a whimsical feel in old things that makes them seem like they’ve seen more than you do. If you look at a vase that’s four hundred years old, you can’t help but wonder if there was once a beautiful lady who once put the bouquet that her suitor gave her into that very vase. Old things are infinitely interesting because of the stories they hold. The older something gets the more interesting and rare and exotic it becomes.

Antiques have this certain elegance that never fails to make people think that they are beautiful. Antiques have a nostalgic feel about them that makes them such a wonderful thing to own. In fact, antiques are so special that some people even go so far as to furnish their houses with antiques, despite the presence of modern appliances and furniture. An interesting thing about antiques is that they’re oftentimes triple the price they were when they were new. Funny that something old and worn can cost so much, isn’t it? Antiquing is a really a great hobby for some people. Well, if that’s the case, maybe we should whip out great grand mama’s old drawer and see if it’s worthy of being hailed antique, maybe then we can earn a dollar or two.

Living as a family of five, we are on a very limited budget. So at christmas, if my husband decides that he wants to purchase a piece of furniture for me, he does some bargain hunting. We have some thrift stores in our area that sell used furniture at a very reasonable price. If you are handy with a tools and some paint, then you would be able to purchase some quality furniture at half the price of new furniture.
Throughout the years, we have save hundreds of dollars buying furniture and restoring it for christmas presents for various family members. I find the smaller the store, the better the prices, as they don’t have a whole lot of space to keep all this inventory on hand. So, if your looking for that unique piece of furniture for a loved one at christmas, then the smaller thrift shops are the place to look.

Has anyone here been able to find that special buy for a loved one and restore it themselves for half the cost of a new piece of furniture?

Anyone who loves to shop knows how dangerous it can be if you don’t pace yourself. Money quickly disappears and soon you are left with a vacant wallet and a bag full of pointless items. For antique collectors, it also can be treacherous when purchasing such collectibles. With a lot of room for mistakes and replicas, it is important to avoid the following slip-ups.

Dozens of antique finders are just too busy to do their research beforehand. This could be a huge problem if you were traveling and happened to find a unique item. For instance, if you were in at Denver at an antique shop and came across a dish that was quite the find, you’d automatically want to buy it. However, there are hundreds of replicas everywhere. For this reason, you need to always research beforehand or keep an antique information book with you at all times. The last thing you want to do is spend hundreds on a fake item.

Although buying items on impulse is normal, antiques need to be carefully examined. Without looking through the entire item, you may not realize it is a replica. Also, most antiques cannot be returned. Therefore, you need to notice every scratch and dent. If there are a lot of scratches or imperfections, and it is authentic, you may be able to get it for a cheaper price.

No matter what area you are in, you need to make sure the place you are visiting is legit. It is often brainless to hire a random stranger to help you find items. A better alternative would be to contact an established dealer and go from there. Also getting names from your collector friends or family may benefit you more in the long run. The last thing you want is to be screwed out of money. Working with a dealer involves trust and patience. It is important you find someone that you can count on.

If your antique is in need of a fix or a new shine, it is important that you let the professionals do their job. There are millions of people each year who find great vintage items, yet ruin them because they do not have the knowledge when restoring a piece. It can be a tricky process, thus it is smart to find an affordable company that will restore it for you.

Any shopper will tell you how difficult it is to say no to a favorite item. This results in overspending and many people are left with empty wallets at the end of the day. For instance, if you are looking at antiques in Denver and find a wonderful item, you need to make sure the price is reasonable. Even if you fall in love with it immediately, it is important to be logical. If a chair is hundreds of dollars, and you feel that it should be less because of imperfections or dents, then you need to acknowledge that. By spending so much money on something that is not valuable, you are only losing out.

These pieces of the past yearn for someone to restore them – perhaps even permit them to tell their stories once again. With hundreds of collectibles in every part of the world, it is no surprise that people are flocking towards such hard to find odds and ends.

No matter where you are from, finding antiques can be extremely easy. Many antique collectors travel far and wide to locate unique items. Some of the most popular spots include Antiques Etc… Antique Mall in Denver and Boston based Antique stores. However, if Denver antiques are just too far out of reach, finding antiques in your own city is possible. It is crucial to know that antiques can be found in the most random places. Many people love going to yard sales to find these items because they are extremely cheap. There are hundreds of websites that will tell you when a yard sale is going on in your area. Other ways to find unique items just like Denver antiques are at antique auction houses. Almost every city has one, although the prices can surely make you run the other way.

Once you have found a city full of collectibles, it is important to consider several factors before purchasing antiques. The first thing you should do is research the item. There are hundreds of fake replicas, which will result in lost money and an empty wallet, if you are an impulsive buyer. For this reason, it is imperative to know your history. Luckily, finding out an item’s history is quite easy these days. The internet provides you with all of the needed information, and some collectibles sites even tell you how to spot a fake replica. It is important to know that most authentic antiques will have imperfections. If an item looks perfect, chances are it is fake. After all, a collectible that has been around for ages, will always have a story to tell. Many of these stories include imperfections within the material. Without this knowledge, it can be difficult to tell the difference between a real collectible and a fake one.

The next step is to make sure you know how to properly care for the antiques you buy. Before purchasing your collectible, it is important to do more research on how to maintain its beauty. There are dozens of sites which will explain what products to use and avoid, and over the next few weeks we will try to provide you with tips for caring for your antiques and collectibles. Most items should never be directly exposed in the sunlight, and they should avoid very humid places.
